Shiatsu & ShinTai Therapy
Shi means finger and atsu means pressure leading to the creation of acupressure massage therapy. This Japanese technique has developed into a powerful way of helping the body to self heal. By unblocking stagnations and releasing energy (ki or qi), you can feel more in balance with your mind and your body. The aim of a shiatsu treatment is to relax your body before working on problem areas, reducing the pain reflex and enabling deeper work to be done.
Shiatsu treatments are carried out on a futon mat and/or with a specially designed body cushion. The body cushion helps to align the spine, is great for chest support and for pregnancy. A massage table is used for clients who struggle to lower themselves down to mat level. Note: you stay fully clothed during a shiatsu treatment. Please wear loose clothing and socks to allow for stretching and rotations.
Why not have an hour of massage on your face? Using traditional Chinese tools - guasha, cupping, jade or crystal roller combined with acupoints and massage. Experience real relaxation of the face, neck and head. Let your mind go and zone out. Wake up to feeling refreshed and energised.
Cupping and Guasha Therapy
I also offer cupping massage therapy. Silicone cups are used with oil to suction and glide across the body, helping to relax taut muscles in the back, arms, legs and glutes. Usually takes between 20 - 30 minutes, followed by shiatsu therapy. Great way to target specific areas of the body to help release tension and move blood and qi.
Qigong is called the Way of Energy and relates to how we can create and increase energy within ourselves. I regularly teach Qigong exercise online on Thursdays at 2pm. This is currently available to Open Age over 50s members only. You can sign up to Open Age at www.openage.org.uk.
I sometimes run introductory Shiatsu training sessions for small groups in learning some of the basics of this amazing therapy. Please let me know if you are interested in future workshops and I will let you know when these will be available.
